New Jersey Law Enforcement Cracking down on Unbuckled Motorist

The National "Click it or Ticket" campaign begins today and runs through June 1st. New Jersey Police takes part in this campaign, they ill be conducting high visibility seat belt check points and remind drivers to buckle up through various media outlets.

“As we kick-off the busy summer driving season it’s important that everyone buckles up every time they go out, both day and night – no excuses,” said Division of Highway Traffic Safety Acting Director Gary Poedubicky. “Officers throughout New Jersey are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing their seat belt.”
Full details on NJ Law Enforcement's plan to crack down on motorist not buckled by seat belt enforcement checkpoints and saturation patrols which will run until June 1st, 2014 from The State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety Office of the Attorney General website.

In the 2013 campaign of "click it or ticket" Law Enforcement Officers issued about 26,000 seat belt citations. This year they are hoping to see drivers and passengers abide by the law and wear their seat belts.

Even though the law requires the use of seat belts while operating a motor vehicle New Jersey currently stands at 91% of front seat belt usage, but are optimistic it will rise to 92%. As for back seat belt use the average stands at 44% usage.

In 2010 the use of seat belts saved about 13,000 lives nationwide.

New York was the first state to pass a law which required vehicle occupants to wear seat belts, a law that came into effect on December 1, 1984. New Jersey fallowed soon after requiring vehicle occupants to wear seat belts March 1, 1985. This law has been around about 30 years, yet there are still those who still don't abide by this law. Campaigns like "Click it or Ticket" has helped highlight the importance seat belts have in saving lives; preventing fatalities and minimizing the risk of suffering severe injuries.

The goal of the "Click it or Ticket" Campaign is to prevent fatalities, and other severe injuries to drivers and passengers if they are involved in an auto accident. Drivers of New Jersey be aware and remember to buckle up because NJ Law Enforcement is going cite all those who are not wearing their seat belts. Remember to use car seats to ensure the safety of your children while you are on the road.
